Raymore (continued)The next question was how to get what we kept from Mississippi to Missouri, a 13-hour drive away. Plus, we had to get two cars, a motorhome, a trailer, and a pickup from MS to MO. The logistics of the vehicles alone was trouble enough. Each of the two cars would fit into the trailer, thus two trips just to get the cars up to Missouri. Plus, one more trip taking the motorhome, trailer, and pickup. The question then was could we haul enough other stuff on each trip to move everything. No, but we thought with one additional trip we could do it ourselves. We decided that the cost of one additional trip was less than hiring a mover. So that was the plan and for the most part it worked. In the end we had to pull an additional U-haul trailer full on the last trip, our trailer behind the pickup and the U-haul behind the motorhome. |

We made plans before we left Missouri to have new flooring put into the living room, kitchen/dinette area, the laundry, the two bathrooms and the master bedroom. We thought it could easily be all done before the move itself. We had hired professional flooring installers to do the job on the side of their regular work schedule, thus mostly weekends. We thought we would have plenty of time. Wrong! The timing caused by the easy sale of the house and quick move out time created a storage problem. We were making a trip up and back each week and storing things in the garage. Then it overflowed into the neighbor's garage, across the street. When we got to MO, with the final trip the refrigerator, washer, drier, and stove were still sitting on the bare living room concrete floor. |
